Digital media - Evaluation

Digital Media

For a unit in class we have been asked to look at different aspects of digital art, which helps me quite a bit as i have chosen to look at digital media for other units these being the contemporary art and surface pattern and so I have decided to mix the units.

The first thing i did was look into different forms of digital techniques and how i could use them to create work for the units while looking at artist that used similar themes or techniques. Photography, Digital collage, Photo manipulation and Digital Illustration were the techniques i chose to work with

A problem i thought i would have to face was that a theme was given to each of the units, however the themes were similar and made it quite easy to combine the themes as the digital media theme was environment and the surface pattern was urban or rural based. The thought process was different for the contemporary unit as the theme was Confined, Balanced, Fragile, Frantic and Still as such i thought about my environment and how the contemporary theme affected me.

So as I chose to do my other units digitally the work I done where for both this unit and there respective unit.

For the digital aspect of the contemporary unit I done photo manipulation and this is what I produced
using images I found online I manipulated them to fit the different contemporary themes but all fit the theme of the environment
still in a frantic world
Still graffiti

humanity unbalanced
the fragile two faces human
For the other unit which was surface pattern I did all the pattern manipulation on the computer using different techniques such as

Digital illustration

Image manipulation

and layering image
After all this I proved to my self that I work better with the computer on digital work and I really like the outcome for digital work. I will say if I where to do this unit again I would come at it in a different position such as trying different programs for different effects and changing my thought process when it come to combining units.
