fauvism and matisse cut outs
In college we learned about fauvism it was a movement that started in 1905-1910. It was given its name by the critic Louis Vauxcelles, who claimed that it was les fauves (‘the wild beasts’),he saw the work of Henri Matisse and André Derain in an exhibition the salon d’automne in Paris, in 1905. I think the purpose of fauvism to use contrasting colours to define details that would be looked over.
